The field of Astrostatistics lives in the intersection between Astrophysics, statistics and computer science. It focuses on developing principled statistical models and computational techniques to foster scientific discoveries and increase reliability and precision in interpreting astronomical data. The field research includes many branches of statistics, such as non-parametric statistics, Bayesian models, time-series analysis, spatial models and deep learning.
Below are several representative research directions of the Astrophysics Research Unit staff in this area.
● International collaboration with The Cosmostatistics Initiative (COIN)
The Cosmostatistics Initiative (COIN) is an international collaboration aimed at data-driven sciences in astronomy. For further information, see http://cosmostatistics-initiative.org/ . Researchers in this field include Rafael S. de Souza.
● Gaussian mixture model framework for sparse clusters
Researchers in this field include SHAO Zhengyi
● Large-sample statistical studies of large-scale survey data, or through Bayesian models.
This is SDSS, LAMOST based, CSST oriented. Large-sample statistical studies of large-scale survey data, or alternatively through Bayesian models. Researchers in this field include (SHEN Shiyin and Rafael S. de Souza.
