Groups
Early Universe and High-redshift Galaxies

The main research contents of this research group are:

The exploration and research of galaxies in the cosmic reionization epoch, the distribution and proportion of neutral hydrogen in the early universe, and the respective contributions and effects of galaxies and black holes in the cosmic reionization epoch; The properties and evolution of high redshift galaxies after cosmic reionization, and the detection and study of high redshift galaxy (proto-)clusters.

Scientific research background:

• The study of high redshift galaxies extends to the period of cosmic reionization, which is crucial for us to understand the formation and evolution of galaxies.

• The Epoch of Reionization (EoR) of the Universe is the formation period of the first generation stars, galaxies and black holes in the Universe, and is the last major phase transition epoch of the whole Universe (neutral hydrogen → ionized hydrogen).

Research programs:

• LAGER & CIDER (Cooperation between China, US, and Chile): in the cosmic reionization epoch, searching for Lyman-alpha Emitting galaxies (LAEs) at z=7.0 (ongoing) & z=7.3 (design) (Leading)

• MWA LAGER/CIDER: using the Cross correlation of 21cm and Lyman-alpha to explore the epoch of cosmic reionization (Leading)

• J-PAS: Multi narrowband sky survey on the ground to search for Lyman-alpha Emitting galaxies and quasars at z~3-6 (Participation)

• CSST-Lyα : CSST large-area sky grism spectra survey for Lyman-alpha Emitting (LAEs) galaxies  & CSST/MCI narrowband imaging Search for High-redshift Lyman-alpha Emitting (LAEs) Galaxies (Pre-study)
