Galaxy structure and dynamics
Group Leader: Ling Zhu
The research in my group mostly focuses on galactic structure and dynamics. We probe the mass
distributions, e.g. dark matter distribution, black hole mass in the inner regions of galaxies, by
modelling the motion of stars. On the other hand, the motion of stars itself, that is their orbit
distribution, can tell us the galaxies' assembly history. By combining stellar dynamics and chemistry,
we have been able to study in detail ‘when’ and ‘how’ the galactic structures were formed.
